On March 8, Alan Gilbert leads the annual opening concert of the NDR Jugendsinfonieorchester featuring the music of Shostakovich, Prokofiev, and Rachmaninoff.

The concert opens with the exuberant melodies and complex rhythms of Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, followed by highlights from Prokofiev’s lyrical ballet score, Romeo and Juliet. NDR Conductor Fellow Petr Popelka takes the podium for the finale, Rachmaninoff’s Sinfonische Tänze.
