The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra (SRSO) regrets to announce that Herbert Blomstedt must withdraw from his planned performances of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 9 on 29 and 30 May, due to ill health. The orchestra and Maestro Blomstedt are grateful that Alan Gilbert, Chief Conductor of Hamburg’s NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and Music Director of The Royal Swedish Opera, is able to substitute for Maestro Blomstedt at short notice.
Although he is currently on sabbatical from public performances, Gilbert is returning to the podium for these concerts as a show of his profound respect and admiration for Maestro Blomstedt, with whom he shares a special bond through their deep ties to Sweden. Alan Gilbert comments, “It is an honor to stand in for Maestro Blomstedt for these performances, and I join with my colleagues around the world in wishing for his swift return to health.”
