The Valissima Institute and The Montclair Orchestra have partnered to provide a two-week intensive summer program for aspiring female conductors. Alan Gilbert and Karina Canellakis have signed on as featured guests. This inaugural program aims to promote diversity in the future of conducting.
Montclair Orchestra President Andre Weker says, “female conductors have historically received fewer opportunities to lead orchestras, though progress has been made in recent years. The future of orchestras includes a diverse range of musicians on stage, including on the podium.”
The program will close with a free public concert on August 8th, at the South Orange Performing Arts Center in South Orange, New Jersey. Find more about the program here.
